Cooling a small warehouse is relatively straightforward. The real challenge comes with large warehouses: extensive floor areas to cover, high ceilings, a constant flow of hot air entering the building and concerns that the solution could significantly increase electricity bills or require expensive construction work. As a result, many businesses with large industrial spaces end up putting up with the heat without fully solving the problem.
The good news is that it is possible to cool a large warehouse without construction work. The key is understanding the problem and choosing the right type of equipment.
A large warehouse does not behave like an office. Hot air enters through loading doors, machinery generates additional heat and the volume of air that needs to be cooled is enormous. Trying to cool the entire space evenly with equipment designed for smaller areas is a waste of money: these units lack sufficient capacity and are not cost-effective in terms of energy consumption.
When dealing with a large area, four factors make the difference:
Sufficient coverage. The equipment must be correctly sized for the actual square metres (m²) of the area to be cooled. An undersized unit will not provide adequate cooling, even when running at maximum capacity.
Low energy consumption. Powerful cooling is of little benefit if electricity costs rise dramatically. The aim is to achieve the best possible balance between cooling capacity and energy consumption.
Operating autonomy. During a full working day, constantly refilling the water tank is impractical. A large-capacity tank provides hours of uninterrupted operation.
No construction work. Ideally, the solution should be portable and require no installation. Simply position the unit where it is needed, without modifying the ceiling or arranging complicated installation work.
Within the range of portable evaporative cooling systems, the Cool M502 is a good example of equipment designed for large spaces. It can cover areas of up to 500 m² and cools the air using water, without refrigerant gases, with a power consumption of just 1.1 kW: substantial cooling capacity without excessive electricity costs.
Its 230-litre water tank provides up to 8 hours of continuous operation, and no installation is required. It can be used both indoors and outdoors, making it suitable for loading areas and semi-open spaces.
Equipment of this type can noticeably reduce the temperature in the working area. As with any open space, the best results are achieved by directing cool air towards the areas where people are working, rather than attempting to cool the entire volume of air evenly.
Choosing the right location and the appropriate number of units according to your floor area is what makes the difference between mediocre results and effective cooling that people can actually feel.
Every space is different, so the best approach is to assess your specific requirements. We can do this remotely, without requiring an on-site visit, and recommend the most suitable solution — whether the Cool M502 or another model from our range — based on your floor area and how the space is used.
