Summer 2026 in Europe won’t be a normal summer. And this time it’s not just a headline — official meteorological agencies are confirming it before June even begins.

If you manage an industrial facility, a workshop or a warehouse, what’s coming in the next few weeks will directly impact your team’s productivity and well-being. Here are the figures — and what to do with them.

What the official forecasts say

Copernicus Climate Change Service (C3S) and the ECMWF seasonal forecast for May-June-July 2026 both point in the same direction: a high probability of temperatures in the upper tercile across most of Europe, with the strongest signal in the Mediterranean basin, the Iberian Peninsula and parts of Central Europe. National agencies such as AEMET (Spain), IPMA (Portugal), Météo-France and DWD (Germany) confirm the trend in their own seasonal outlooks.

Three figures that reinforce the scenario:

  • The Mediterranean Sea is entering summer with surface anomalies of up to +3 °C above the 1982-2015 average.
  • The first tropical nights (minimum >20 °C) have already been recorded weeks earlier than usual in southern Spain, southern France, Italy and Greece.
  • In the third week of April, 30 °C was already exceeded in inland Iberia, southern Italy and parts of the Balkans — values typically associated with mid-June.

In short: summer has already started, temperature-wise.

What this means inside your facility

In poorly ventilated metal-roofed buildings, indoor temperatures can exceed outdoor temperatures by 5 to 10 °C. If it’s 38 °C outside, it’s 43-45 °C inside.

Above 30 °C, physical work performance drops in a well-documented way: between 2% and 4% per additional degree, depending on the task. Over an 8-hour shift, that translates into equivalent hours lost every day. Add to this: increased workplace incidents, overheated machinery and temperature-sensitive products at risk.

What no longer works
